Career Pathways Shouldn't Be Imposed, Says Ms. Oluwatoyin Awoderu

A US-based educational consultant. Ms. Oluwatoyin Awoderu has called on parents to desist from imposing career pathways on their children and wards. She stated this during a webinar held on Twitter Space recently. The seminars yitled: 'Studying Abroad in the USA & Canada: Academic & Career Pathways' had in attendance participants from Nigeria and Kenya. 

According to her, the digital transformation has irreversibly transformed the mode of work, place of work and how career choices are made. Ms. Awoderu, who is also the Chief Transformation Officer, Windsor Educational Services, US, while responding to questions from participants stressed  the need by students to consult career counsellor before making final decision on career choices. She explained in a simple way how to  secure university admission into the US and Canada universities for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. When asked about funding opportunities, she mentioned that course of study, academic grade as well as the type of school are the major success determinants.
While using her personal career trajectory to explain why it is important for parents to allow students decide for themselves, she said that she studied STEM at the University because of her dad's  preference, however she later switched to management sciences after completing a MBA program, which enabled her to optimize her natural communication abilities for a career in educational management. 

She mentioned that, though the US universities are comparatively expensive, those who couldn't afford US education could explore Barbados. She specifically recommended Barbados for those seeking to study Medicine.
