Oba Mukaila Salako the Adokun of Igan-Okoto Bags Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) from HEIM-WELDIOS University, Benin Republic.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Mukaila Akanni Salako, the Adokun of Igan-Okoto in Yewa North Local Government area of Ogun State has received an honorary doctorate degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution from the HEIM-WELDIOS University, Porto Novo, Benin Republic. The colourful conferment ceremony which was held at the palace of the monarch had in attendance: traditional rulers in Yewa land, chiefs, community leaders, well wishers as well as eminent personalities in Igan-Okoto.
The Registrar of HEIM-WELDIOS University, Porto Novo, Benin Republic Mr. Waheed Shittu, who led the delegation of the management of the institution to the palace of Oba Mukaila Salako, on June 10th, 2022 said the Management of the University having considered philanthropic, development and conflict resolution interventions of the king since he ascended to the throne, the University came to the conclusion that the king deserves an honorary doctoral in Peace and Conflict Resolution for his commendable peace building efforts. Mr. Shittu, called on other traditional rulers in the society to emulate Oba Mukaila Salako, stressing that without peace, there cannot be development.
In his acceptance speech, His Royal Majesty Oba Mukaila Salako, thanked the management of the HEIM-WELDIOS University, Porto Novo, Benin Republic, for the conferment of the doctorate degree. According to him Igan-Okoto, has been a peaceful town, because of effective conflict management system that the traditional council under his leadership has been implementing. He therefore, dedicated the honorary PhD award to all sons and daughters of Igan-Okoto, for being peaceful and law abiding.
One of the residents of Igan-Okoto, who spoke with our correspondent said that the conferment of the doctorate degree on Oba Mukaila Salako, is an honour well deserved, because the Monarch has contributed immensly to the peace and development of the Town since he ascended the throne years back. He notes that Oba Mukaila Salako, apart from his impressive conflict resolution skills, is known for attracting development to his domain.
Part of the entourage of HEIM-WELDIOS University, Porto Novo, Benin Republic, delegation for the conferment of the honorary doctorate award was Professor Bolaji Taiwo, the Dean of Post graduate school of HEIM-WELDIOS University. In a conversation with a news reporter, Mr. Waheed Shittu, noted that traditional rulers have important roles to play in the government security architecture. He added, since every violent conflict is local in nature, the traditional rulers that are taking proactive measures to maintain peace and security in their domains deserve to be honoured and encouraged to do more for sustenance of peaceful coexistence in the society.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of HEIM-WELDIOS University, Porto Novo, Mr. Shittu, used the occasion of the conferment ceremony to appeal to well meaning indigenes Igan-Okoto to sponsor indigent students in the Town to attend HEIM-WELDIOS University, Porto Novo. He added that there are various scholarship opportunities for prospective applicants, especially tuition slash scholarship.
